Oshiomhole Submits List of Commissioners to House of Assembly
January 8, 2009 by Gabriel Enogholase |
GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomohle of Edo State has submitted the list of commissioners that would constitute his cabinet to the state House of Assembly for screening and ratification.
Vanguard reliably gathered that the list which had passed through series of screening from the leadership of Action Congress in the state, was submitted to the Speaker of the state House of Assembly in the early hours of yesterday.
Report said the delay in the list may not be unconnected with the determination of the state governor in ensuring that only competent persons make up the cabinet.
However, it was learnt also that the leadership of the AC are not comfortable with the decisions of the governor to appoint some persons who are appointees of the administration of former Governor Lucky Igbinedion as commissioners.
When Vanguard however contacted the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr Zakawanu Garuba, he confirmed that the list had been received by the House but declined any further comment on the matter.
The House was slated to resume proceedings on the 19th of January, 2009 bit it was however gathered that the approval of the list may hit the rock unless the Governor reverses his decision to recall the 95 sacked workers of the state owned Edo City Transport Service (ECTS).
Vanguard further gathered that leaders of the party including the former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi, had protested the two slots allegedly given to the former Chairman of the PDP's Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih.
Though Vanguard learnt that the faction of the PDP led by Anenih had earlier rejected the slot given to them by Oshiomhole at as at the time of filing this report they are yet to confirm if they have accepted the offer.
However, a source at Government House told Vanguard that "I want you to know that the said list is all inclusive in the sense that no section of the party can openly complain that he or she was undermined in the process leading to the emergence of the Commissioner's list.
The governor took into consideration the need to move the state forward as well as getting the best hands, the best brain and the best people with passion for development into him cabinet.
"People will definitely complain even though you asked them to bring 10 persons each. But I am sure that by the time the list comes to limelight, you will agree with me that it is made up of people with excellent integrity and character" the source said.
