Edo State Governor, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, on Wednesday, fulfilled his promise to the families of Mr. Felix Aiwekhoe and Mr. Saturday Apuegho whose children were killed during the April 14, 2007 governorship election in the state.
Presenting cheques worth N5m each to both families in his office in Benin, the governor said that the money was not meant to compensate the families but to recognise that government could assist to mitigate their pains.
Oshiomhole said, “We cannot put money to value human life but we recognise that we can assist you to mitigate the pains and to show we share your grieves.”
Presenting the cheque of N5m to Apuegho’s mother, Mrs. Victoria Apugho, the governor urged her to use the money to support her children in the area of education, business and other meaningful ventures.
He promised them that their children who were jobless would be given priority in the 10,000 jobs his administration was about to create this month.
The governor said, “We are giving you this over the loss of your dear son. God will strengthen you and protect the other children that they will grow up to see you through and give you all the support you need in life.
“If there is anything the government can do to support your family, don‘t hesitate to reach us. We are sorry for what happened.
“Take heart, this is N5m for you, make sure you put it in a bank account and spend it and support the other children to go to school.”
