DUTIES
The sustainable development of the environment is an important aspect of the economy of Edo State. The environment as you well know comprise land, water and air (natural). It includes the cultural landscapes (built environment), which surround man. Environment therefore is the sum of all external conditions affecting the life, development and survival of man.
The Ministry has the responsibility of managing the environment. In managing the environment, the Ministry tackles all environmental problems ranging from waste management, flooding and erosion, pollution from industrial waste, forest depletion and degradation, general atmospheric pollution and fire hazards as well as safe transportation of indigenes within and outside Edo State.
Other duties include

• Formulation and management of the transport function in Edo State including transport Unions liaison, Mechanic, Artisans and allied Association liaison.
• Design, installation and maintenance of traffic road markings, traffic lights and street lights, traffic road links, pedestrian bridges and crossings, intersection beautification, street furniture provision (bus shelters) etc.
• Boarding and auctioning of Government unserviceable plants, vehicles and machinery.
• Drivers’ continuing education and training, drivers’ enlightenment programmes etc.
• Collation and analysis of traffic related data viz vehicular, passengers, pedestrian traffic surveys, freight and parking facilities surveys.
• Vehicle inspection test for road worthiness, learners permits, test for driving license.
• Vehicle recovery services, accident management, road obstruction removal etc.
• Fire safety, prevention and combat services.
• Supervision of the State Government’s transport based parastatals/companies viz Edo Transport Service Ltd (Edo Line), Edo City Transport Ltd (ECTS) and Edo Courier Ltd.
• Other duties assigned by Government from time to time.
